I have always been fascinated with February 29th because the day just seems so mysterious and fun and full of wonder. If you were born on February 29th you would only get to "celebrate" your birthday on the 29th one year out of four because February 29th is the intercalary day in a Leap Year! After doing a little research and learning about Leap Day and why it was created, I found out the day is observed because the Earth's period of orbital revolution around the Sun takes approximately 6 hours longer than the normal 365 whole days of the calendar year. A leap day is inserted into the calendar (February 29th) to compensate for the 6-hour lagtime helping to realign the calendar with the Earth's position in the Solar System, otherwise, our seasons would be all messed up! So, if your birthday is February 29th, during the other three years when February only has 28 days, which day do you celebrate your birthday? February 28th or March 1st?
My husband and I got married on Leap Day, February 29, 2016. I am having to ask myself the same question when it comes to our wedding anniversary. I sometimes wonder if he suggested February 29th to get married on so he wouldn't have to buy me gifts three years out of four!! Just kidding, we both thought it would be a fun day to get married on but we haven’t figured out which day to celebrate our anniversary. For the last two years we have done something special on both days!! Yesterday was February 28th...we celebrated by going out to eat at Colton's Steakhouse. Today is March 1st...bring on the gifts!! I don't think it gets any better than that!
Happy anniversary!! <3
