Brackets, brackets, and more brackets. That is all you hear about when March Madness rolls in! It starts every year at the beginning of March airing college basketball games on multiple channels, showcasing tournament after tournament in each conference until we wind down to the Final Four teams headed to “The Dance”. I never watched college sports until I met my husband ten years ago. He and his dad were avid watchers of college football, college basketball, Royals baseball, and Chiefs football. Sometimes we would watch the NBA, but once Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers retired, we quit watching the NBA.
I had never filled out a bracket until last year. My former co-worker was quite the sports enthusiast and asked me if I was going to fill out a bracket. I laughed and told him I had never done one and didn’t really know how. He gave me some pointers so away I went with my empty bracket to fill out. I not only filled out one bracket, but I filled out nine!! I couldn’t stop filling out brackets. I was addicted! It was so much fun to plot and scheme and try to figure out which teams were going to make it to the dance! I finished up my nine brackets and brought them in to school for Jordan, my former co-worker, to look at. He asked me many questions on why I chose a certain team or how I came up with my selections. My answers were not what he expected because unlike myself, he spent many hours analyzing and reading statistics and learning tips and injuries, and on and on. Me, I just picked teams by the color of their uniforms, their mascots, if their school name sounded cool and if I liked the coach of the team! That was MY criteria!
I Snapchatted Mr. Jordan the other day and reminded him to include me in his group again this year and he said he would. I’m wondering if he really will send me a link to his group because I don’t think he liked that I ranked better on my bracket last year than he did...I feel like Peter Brand in the movie, Moneyball, only I'm the King with Criteria that works in Bracketology!! Anybody want to fill out brackets with me?! LOL
I've always been in the top 3 in my bracket group by choosing teams mostly based off of colors, mascots, or liking the location of the college! I love the reference to Moneyball!!! Haha
ReplyDeleteI love March Madness, and yes, I fill out brackets. I used to really know who would win, but now, I go with my gut and do worse. I think this story is so fitting of you, as you are enthusiastic with all new things. If he does not include you, I can.
ReplyDeletePlease! I would love to do brackets with THE Mary Sears!!!!
